School Counseling Philosophy & Beliefs

My personal philosophy indicates that school counseling is an integral part of the educational process for all students. As a counselor it is of utmost importance to provide a comprehensive, developmental counseling program implemented to serve students from various backgrounds in the areas of academic, career, and personal/social development. As a proactive student advocate, we must recognize the uniqueness, dignity, and personal worth of each individual while collaborating with students, parents, educators, and community members to support each individual student. It is my responsibility to find and develop plans to remove any/all barriers in preparation for student success in our ever-changing society.

Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire.
-William Butler Yeats

1. It is my responsibility to provide a friendly, accommodating learning environment for each and every student.

2. Counseling services should help students understand that the uniqueness of each individual is necessary for effectiveness in our ever-changing society.

3. All students should show yearly academic growth.

4. Counseling services should help students set, maintain, and reach personal, academic, emotional, and professional goals.

5. The school, parents, and community should maintain equal collaboration in molding our students to be outstanding citizens of society.

6. The well-being of our students is my greatest priority and I will do anything in my power to maintain a safe, positive atmosphere at all times.
